DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for the coordination or support of general/special fundraising, marketing and public relations activities, and external as well as internal communications. Serves as a community spokesperson, prepares and distributes Agency publications, as well as various grant and funding reports.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports development and implementation of long-range funding programs such as endowments and planned giving.
  • Supports coordination of special events and fundraising activities.
  • Oversee grant seeking, including researching, writing proposals, and reporting requirements.
  • Supports the expansion of client and donor base through marketing, public relations, and fundraising activities and provides oversight of recording donations and contributions from various sources (including thank you letters and other communications).
  • Increases community awareness of Agency programs and activities through various speaking engagements, service to committees, and participation in community activities.
  • Recruits, hires, and trains new/existing development staff; monitors and evaluates subordinate staff; and trains staff regarding effective communications in promoting the agency and programs.
  • Works with staff, the Board of Directors, and other volunteers to develop and implement fundraising strategies and activities.
  • Prepares and distributes publications to include, but not limited to brochures, newsletters, and press releases, while serving as media spokesperson in the absence of the President.
  • Compiles statistics and prepares various reports, as needed.
  • Organizes daily work and outlines priorities based on department needs and deadlines.
  • Manages time and workload appropriately and meets deadlines.
  • Participates in creating and documenting workflow and processes.
  • Receives cross-training on various job assignments and substitutes for other employees as required.
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • This position may require work to be completed in the evenings and on the weekends.
  • Performs job-related duties as required for department/program operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in marketing or public relations (including grant writing).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of non-profit agency services, and general operations.
  • Knowledge of social media, marketing, and public relations functions and techniques.
  • Strong computer skills, working with Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook, and ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to use search engines and multiple websites.
  • Strong typing skills.
  • Ability to maintain records and files for reporting purposes.
  • Ability to build donor relationships while developing and leading program workshops.
  • Ability to deliver public speeches and make detailed presentations.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees and other agencies.
  • Ability to deal with sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to relate to diverse populations and cultures while communicating with clients and the public in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize.
  • Ability to thoroughly follow through on assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work in an ever-changing environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to talk and hear to effectively communicate with clients, staff, and payers, and communicate with supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to walk low-moderate distances; sit for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle, touch, and feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with multiple staff, and in an environment that has a moderate noise level, and may experience moderate interruptions throughout the day while in the office.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Staff must abide by all policies and procedures of Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties, which includes the Agency’s stance on abortion, the Agency’s Mission and Vision, and the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy outlined by the Catholic Church and Code of Ethics.
  • Must pass all background and clearance checks including, but not limited to a criminal background check, DHHS central registry clearance check, and others as deemed applicable, and must have a valid driver's license and carry auto insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shift
