Description

The Flint & Genesee Business Bridge is an online directory of minority-owned small businesses in Genesee County. Listing your business on the Business Bridge connects you with other minority-owned businesses in the area, as well as larger local organizations and community members seeking to do business with minority-owned businesses. The Business Bridge also allows you to bid on non-government contracts and engage with other businesses through networking events and trainings.

The Business Bridge Training Series will cover a range of topics relevant to business owners, large and small. During this session, we'll be discussing Business Banking 101.

Meet Your Facilitator: Erika Davis, Teach Me How To Bank

Erika Davis owns and operates Teach Me How to Bank. Erika earned an Associate of Arts from Mott Community College and a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Michigan Flint in 2009. She began her career in banking while in college as a teller, and moved throughout the organization for over 14 years. The idea of Teach Me How to Bank began years ago on a vision board after Erika constantly pondered over what she could do to combat the issue of the non-banked and under-banked people in her community. She noticed people's concerns with things like account fees, accessing funds, and fraud, but were too intimidated to visit or call their financial institution until it was too late. With banking being such a critical component to financial literacy, Erika knew it was more important than ever to start this business.

Teach Me How to Bank's goal is to provide worthwhile information to individuals and businesses in underserved areas in efforts to help them avoid those common pitfalls. Spreading knowledge and empowering others, before the worse happens, is what Erika and Teach Me How To Bank is all about.
