Description
Our Chamber Luncheon is your opportunity to grow both your network and business knowledge. Please join us for this monthly event that offers opportunities for connecting with 150+ local and regional members, and staying up-to-date on business and community topics with our featured speakers.
This month's speaker is Kerry Ebersole Singh, Census 2020 Executive Director for the State of Michigan to discuss the census count and the importance of community participation. You might ask why the Chamber is getting involved? The answer is? because the stakes are high. For one, for every person not counted in the 2020 Census, the state misses out on $1,800 per person, per year. The census also determines the state?s political power in Washington D.C. In other words, Michigan could lose another Congressional seat, reducing our representation at the federal level. Census data determines how $675 billion in federal funds are distributed to local communities for health care, schools, roads and other services each year. It?s also used to help determine where businesses choose to invest and build new facilities; how much grant funding is distributed for economic development; and where developers build homes and revitalize neighborhoods.
