Description
Join us on Saturday, December 9, 2023 @ 2:00pm for a talk by textile artist Carole Harris at MW Gallery in Flint, MI. The artist will discuss her studio practice and creative career. Carole Harris is a fiber artist who has redefined and subverted the basic concepts of quilting to suit her own purposes. She extends the boundaries of traditional quilting by exploring other forms of stitchery, irregular shapes, textures, materials and objects. This talk is presented in conjunction with the exhibit "Hand in Hand: Fine Art + Craft" on view now at MW Gallery through January 20, 2024.

About the exhibition “Hand in Hand: Fine Art + Craft”
MW Gallery's current exhibition celebrates the unique, sometimes provocative creations of contemporary artists who use craft materials and techniques to respond to the world around them. Many of the artists draw on skills and practices that have been passed down within their families for generations. Artists featured in the exhibit include Emma Amos, El Anatsui, Mary Lee Bendolph, Nick Cave, Sonya Clark, Carole Harris, Simone Leigh, Lucy Mingo, Faith Ringgold, Joyce J. Scott, Therman Statom, Papa Ibra Tall, Nate Young and others. Showcasing objects made from a variety of media, the exhibit illustrates the richness and diversity that handcrafts bring to contemporary art.
